Former Tiger shot

Anton Kulas, 28, said to be an informant for the Sri Lanka Army (SLA), was shot dead at Musal Utthi in Uylankulam area in Mannar district yesterday at 7.30 p.m. said police.
He hails from Vankalai and was married to a girl in Musal Utthi village, which is in the area captured by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) in Operation 'Edibala' in February 1996. Sources in Mannar also said that he was a former member of the Liberation Tigers. His body is lying in Mannar hospital and the Police are making inquiries. Meanwhile the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) handed over a body of a youth, in civil clothes, believed to a member of the Liberation Tigers, to the authorities in Vavuniya hospital last night. Police said the youth was shot dead by the SLA at the Mankulam forward defence line when he attempted to infiltrate the SLA held areas. Hospital officials said the body has not been identified yet.
