Youth succumbs to injuries, man found dead in Jaffna

The youth shot and injured at New Chemma’ni Veethi in Kalviyangkaasu Thursday succumbed to his injuries at Jaffna Teaching hospital Monday, and a civilian who went missing Wednesday was found dead Monday, with assault injuries on his body near the well of the Heroes’ Resting Home at Ellangku’lam, Uddupiddy in Vadamaraadchi. Meanwhile, unidentified gunmen shot dead an elderly trader in Chaavakachcheari Saturday around 7:30 a.m., sources in Jaffna said.
S. Inthirakanthan, 23, succumbed to wounds sustained when unidentified armed men on motorcycles forcibly entering into a house during curfew hours at Kalviyangkaddu in Jaffna Thursday around 9:00 p.m opened fire on a family watching television. In the incident Thevarasa Satheeskumar was killed. Meanwhile, residents near Ellangku’lam Heroes’ Resting Home, disturbed by an offensive odour, found the corpse of Velupillai Sivayogarasa with assault wounds near the well in Ellangku’lam Heroes’ Resting Home in Udupiddy, Vadamaraadchi. Sivayogarasa, a father of two children and a resident of Polikandi in Vadamaraadchi was reported missing since Wednesday after leaving home around 6:30 a.m., according to his wife’s complaint. Sivayogarasa may have been beaten to death elsewhere and then dumped at Ellangku’lam, residents who found the corpse said. In a shooting incident Saturday around 7:30 a.m in Chaavakachcheari, unidentified gunmen arriving at the house of an elderly trader at Maruthadi shot him killed and escaped from the site, sources in Chaavakachcheari said. The victim was identified as Singam, 70.
