A Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldier was killed and 11 troopers were seriously wounded Friday night when artillery shells fired by the Liberation Tigers of Tamileelam (LTTE) hit a Forward Defence Line post of the SLA at Nochchikku'lam located in Mannaar Town division around 8:45 p.m., Police said.

Due to bad weather conditions, the wounded were rushed to Mannaar hospital instead of being air lifted to Anuradhapura hospital.

The wounded soldiers were admitted at the surgical ward, causing the medical authorities at the hospital to transfer the civilian patients elsewhere.

The SLA and Police were deployed in the ward and around the hospital.
