Body of Sinhala youth found with gunshot wounds in Vavuniyaa

The body of a 30-year old Sinhala youth who disappeared on the 19th December after travelling to Vaa'rikuddi area, 15 km northwest of Vavuniyaa, to transport sand, was found with gunshot wounds and partially buried Saturday, sources in Vavuniyaa said.

The youth was identified as Janaka Niroshan Tennekoon by his brother. Tennekoon is from Wellampola in Gampola in Kandy, according to Vavuniya Police.

Vavuniyaa district Magistrate visited the crime scene Saturday and directed the Police to send the empty bullets found near the victims body for forensic tests and to submit a report to the Court.

Vavuniyaa Police said the youth was likely abducted by Liberation Tigers and killed.
