Meritorious A/L performance brings cheer to Jaffna parents

The performance of students from Jaffna in the General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) Examination released Friday has brought cheer to the parents, Northern Province education department sources said. Jaffna students, while obtaining first places in the Tamil medium in Math and Biological Sciences, students have also performed competitively in all-island ranking, with a students getting 3rd and 5th places in Mathematics.

32 students in Jaffna district have obtained ‘A’ grades in all three subjects in the recently released results of G.C.E A/L examination which serves as the basis for admission to Sri Lanka universities.

Notable performance include students of Hartley College, Point Pedro, located within the Northern High Security Zone (HSZ).

Vimalanthan Rajeevan, 19, scored the highest aggregate of marks becoming the top student among the Tamil medium candidates (Mathemetics Section).

Srisothinathan Vimalanathan, 19, another student of Hartley College in the Biological Sciences Division also obtained the top grade of ‘A’ in all three subjects and scored the best results in the entire Northern province.

Union College, Tellippalai which is also located in HSZ achieved First place in the province producing the best results in Arts Section, while St.John’s college students produced the best results in Commerce section.

The educational community, while welcoming the commendable results, expressed hope such achievement will motivate other students in the peninsula to perform well in future examinations.
