Mr. K. Seenithamby, the coroner of Chenkalady who conducted the inquest into the killing of 7 members of a family by a PLOTE cadre yesterday, ordered the police to arrest him. The burial will take place at the state's expense.
The PLOTE cadre, Balasubraminiuam, alias 'Bala' shot and killed 7 members of his wife's family yesterday. Vairamuthu Sivalingam, 42, brother in law of Anthony, who was killed by 'Bala' said at the inquiry that he had known Bala's family for 11 years. According to Sivalingham, 'Bala' had been quarrelling with his wife. "He ('Bala') threatened his wife, when quarrelling with her, that he would kill her entire family and therefore he joined the movement (PLOTE)" he said. His sister in law, Murukesu Rajeswary, 14, said at the inquest that she was sleeping with her mother and her other sister's daughters, when she heard firing. "We were hiding in the neighbour's house when 'Bala' came to our house after shooting my sister and her family. My mother went and begged him not to shoot. I saw him shooting my mother from neighbour's house" she said. Meanwhile unconfirmed reports said that the killer 'Bala', was arrested by the Liberation Tigers at Eeravur yesterday evening.
