Unknown assailants triggered a claymore attack on the residence of A.L.M.Haniffa, the opposition leader of Oaddamaavadi District Council, Batticaloa district, Wednesday early morning 4:40 a.m.

Haniffa’s car was completely destroyed while the front portion of the house received considerable damag in the attack, Vaazhaichcheanai police said.

Mr.Haniffa contested during the elections held in 2006 and was elected as the leader of opposition of Oaddamaavadi District Council.

Rauf Hakeem, the leader of Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC), condemning the attack, alleged that the attack by the armed group was carried out with the support of a Minister from that region, without naming the Minister.
