LTTE, SLA DPU unit clash in Vavuniyaa

Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) fighters confronted SLA troopers of Deep Penetration Unit (DPU) infiltrating Sunday morning 11:10 a.m. through Paalamoaddai Forward Defence lines (FDL)of LTTE in Vavuniyaa and forced them to flee from the area, Vavuniyaa operations command of Tigers said.
Two SLA soldiers were seriously wounded during the clash and military hardware including Claymores-04, wires and detonators were recovered by LTTE. The SLA after regrouping attempted twice in the afternoon, once between 2:50p.m. and 3:35p.m and again between 3:45 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., to push forward towards LTTE bases with artillery and motor fire support. However, LTTE cadres beat back their efforts forcing the SLA to retreat to their bases. On Sunday SLA troops attempted to push forwards through Ma’nalaa’ru, Kokkuththoduvaay and Ma'nki'ndimalai and there was fierce fighting in the area from 8:00 a.m till 3:30 p.m. in the afternoon. Details of injuries and casualties are not known.
