Two civilians injured in SLAF air attack

Two civilians, including a school girl, were injured and two houses were destroyed in renewed air attack by Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) jets in Ki'linochchi, about 300 metres from Thiruvaiyaa'ru Mahavidyalayam (school), between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, Ki'linochchi hospital sources said.

Two SLAF jets conducted 2 sorties and dropped 8 bombs, at Thiruvaiyaa'ru, south-east of Ki'linochchi town, the sources said. The injured civilians were identified as M.Keerththanaa, 11, a student at Thiruvaiyaa'ru Maha Vidyalayam and Selvarajah Thanapakiyam,29. M.Keerththanaa was on her way to the school when she was hit by a shrapnel. She was admitted at the hospital with injury to the head, medical sources said. Talking to media this evening, the principal of the school K.Mathuranayakam said, annual school athletic event scheduled to be held at 2.30 p.m., Wednesday, has been postponed following the airstrike. He said around 60 school children were decorating for the school event when the SLAF jets dropped bombs. The children took shelter in the bunckers during the air strike, he added.
