Upcountry Tamil abducted in Moneragala

Unknown armed persons arrived in a white colored van abducted a 26-year-old Upcountry Tamil, M. Tharmarajah, 26, Tuesday afternoon, increasing the number of Tamils abducted in Moneragala police division to five since February this year.

Mr. Tharmarajah was returning home from Moneragala magistrates court after appearing as one of the suspects arrested in a cordon and search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Army and the Police.

The armed men, clad in black, stopped the bus at Moopanave'li and forced the victim on board their vehicle at gun point, according to complaints lodged with the Moneragala police by his relatives.

Tharmarajah is a resident of Kumbukan estate in Moneragala district.
