SL Police reduces checkpoints between Vavuniyaa-Madawaachchi

[TamilNet, Friday, 28 March 2008, 01:46 GMT]
Vavuniyaa police have agreed to deploy more buses between Vavuniyaa and Madawaachchi to transport passengers to reduce travel delays, and also have agreed not to stop buses at several places for checking passengers and their belonging after they leave Vavuniyaa and before reaching Madawaachchi, according to Wanni district parliamentarian Mr.Sivanathan Kishore, media sources said.

Presently passengers leaving Vavuniyaa bus stand after thorough checking by security forces are asked to get down at three additional checkpoints before reaching Madawaachchi.

Sivanathan Kishore brought this to notice of the Senior Superintendent of Police in Vavuniyaa in a discussion he had with the latter. The MP requested the SSP to stop this procedure to alleviate suffering of civilians.

The SSP had also agreed to deploy more police personnel at the Madawaachchi railway station to check and give clearance to commuters bound for Vavuniyaa from Colombo.

Currently two police constables are deployed to check commuters from Colombo Fort railway station before they leave Madawaachchi railway station to board buses bound for Vavuniyaa, media reported.
