Resettled families sheltered in schools at Pallikudiruppu and Amman Nagar in Moothoor east in Trincomalee district are undergoing serious difficulties without basic facilities and other relief, since their return, K.Thurairatnasingham, Trincomalee district Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian said in a complaint to Resettlement Minister Rishard Badiudin. About 200 families have been resettled in Pallikudiduruppu and 70 families at Amman Nagar close to Arafat Nagar, about one km off from Moothoor east.
Resettled families have been sheltered in schools as their houses have been damaged due to the conflict and by anti-social elements. Furthermore, the resettled families have been isolated from other parts preventing them from seeking any help from outside said Mr.Thurairatnasingham. The only access to resettled families located in Pallikudiduruppu school to outstation is through Thoppoor village as other routes have been closed by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) for security reasons. Resettled families sheltered in Amman Nagar have been instructed to travel via Arafat Nagar as other routes have been closed by the SLA. The resettled families lack health and sanitation facilities. Majority of them are farmers and they have not been provided with basic assistance to restart their cultivation. Displaced families have been resettled in Pallikudiduruppu two months ago and two weeks' ago in Amman Nagar. Since then they have not been provided with any relief, said Mr.Thurairatnasingham in his complaint.
