Youth shot dead, another injured, in Jaffna

Unidentified armed men on motor cycle shot and killed a youth Thursday around 10:00 a.m at Kaladdiyamman Koayiladi near Jaffna University and a little later, in a separate incident, unknown armed men on motor cycle opened fire on a fish vendor in Kurunakar area in Jaffna. The seriously injured fisherman was rushed to Jaffna Teaching hospital and is being treated in the Intensive Care Unit, sources in Jaffna said.

The youth shot and killed was identified as S. Sivanesan, 26.

The killers chased Sivanesan as he was going along the road and shot him dead, eyewitnesses said.

The fish vendor seriously injured was identified as V. Vasanthakumar, 24.

The gun men on motor cycle shot and injured him while he was selling fish in Kurunakar area.

The body of the killed youth was recovered and handed over to Jaffna Teaching hospital mortuary.
