Two Muslim youths abducted in Kalladi, tension prevails in Kaaththaankudi, Aaraiyampathi

Paramilitary personnel of Pillayan group abducted two Muslim youths Thursday afternoon 1:00 p.m. in Kalladi area, within Batticaloa police division. The victims, residents of Ea’raavoor had gone to Kalladi to pay electricity bills when they were abducted.

Meanwhile Mr.Zubair who was recently sworn in as minister in the Eastern Province Council (EPC) has held talks at his residence with Pillayan group operatives regarding the abduction.

However, Sivakeertha Prabhakaran, the TMVP Mayor of Batticaloa Municipal Council has informed the relatives of the abducted youths that they will be released Saturday morning 8:00 a.m. and they are keeping fine.

The abduction has not been reported at any police station by the relatives of the two youths, police sources said.

Meanwhile tension continues to prevail in Kaaththaankudi and Aaraiyampathi and all business establishments in both towns have been shut down. Since the normal transport has been severely affected teachers from outstations were unable to reach their schools resulting in all schools in the area being closed at 9:00 p.m.

None of the government establishments too functioned throughout Friday.

A limited number of vehicles were utilized by the government for the benefit of long distance travelers with protection provided by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troopers and police personnel, sources said.
