Muslim trader recovered dead in Batticaloa

Batticaloa police recovered the corpse of a Muslim vegetable trader from Kaahththaankudi along Kalladi Chivaananthaa School Street Sunday around 1:30 p.m on information from the residents of the area. Signs of tension prevail in Kaaththaankudi where police and Special Task Force commandos have been deployed to maintain order and peace.

The body was identified as Abdul Farook Mohamed Kuthoos, 45, a native of Ea’raavoor, married in Kaaththaankudi.

Police handed over the body to Batticaloa Teaching Hospital for post mortem examination.

The body was recovered 7 km south of Batticaloa town.

Following the killing of a key paramilitary operative Shanthan and his associate of the TMVP Pillayan Group in the Muslim town of Kaaththaankudi 22 May, confrontations took place in Kaaththaankudi, Ea'raavoor and Oaddamaavadi area in which four were killed, 10 injured and 4 abducted.

The violence came to stop after a conference was held in Ea'raavoor police station Wednesday attended by Eastern Provincial Council (EPC) Chief Minister Pillayaan, Eastern Province Deputy Police Commissioner, Minister Ameer ALi, members of EPC, officials of the armed forces and Muslim leaders from the area.
