Amnesty vigil for killed journalists during Rajapakse's visit

Amnesty International, UK, is organizing a vigil for "Sri Lankan journalists killed and under threat," at the Marlborough House, Commonwealth Secretariat, London from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. 9th Monday, the organizations UK co-ordinator Sarah Oliver said. Sri Lanka's President Mahinda Rajapakse will be in UK to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting scheduled for 9th and 10th June.

On Tuesday several NGOs are also organizing a mass demonstration between 12:00 Noon till 3:00 p.m. at the same location, Commonwealth Secretariat, Marlborough
House, Pall Mall, London. Tamil organizations are joining "other civil society organisations in calling everyone concerned with human rights and Peace in Sri Lanka to unite and show support to the human rights defenders and to register concern and protest against State Oppression and unjust war in Sri Lanka," a leaflet issued by the Tamil Information Center in UK said Saturday.
