Sri Lanka Army (SLA) on Monday attempted to break through Liberation Tigers of Tamileelam (LTTE) Forward Defence Line three times at Paalamoaddai in Vavuniyaa district between 6:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. with the support of artillery and mortar fire. At least 4 SLA soldiers were killed in the fighting and 9 wounded, LTTE officials told reporters in Vanni.
First attempt by the SLA was made at 6:00 a.m. The SLA withdrew their fighting units after a few hours of stiff resistance by the Tigers and engaged fresh units at 10:00 a.m. in a re-newed attempt. After pulling back the troops, the SLA launched a stronger front around 3:00 p.m., but was forced to withdraw the troops at 5:30 p.m., after sustaining casualties, the Tigers said. The LTTE has not issued details on their casualties.
