UNP, SLMC councilors attend EPC meeting

Fifteen councilors of the opposition group in the East Provincial Council led by Rauf Hakim, leader of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) attended the special session of the council held on Wednesday morning in Trincomalee town.
The Governor of Eastern Province Mohan Wijewickrema delivered his keynote address on June 11 Wednesday. He was accorded a special guard of honor by the Sri Lanka Police at the commencement of the session. Thereafter he, along with the Chairman of the EPC, Mohamed Faiz, hoisted the Sri Lankan national flag and provincial council flag. The opposition group comprises members of the main opposition United National Party (UNP) and Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC). They boycotted the first meeting held June 4.
