Injured in a booby trap

S.Anton (41), a displaced refugee from Jaffna, who had sought refuge at Kalmadu, in the Kilinochchi district, was seriously injured when a booby trap exploded near the Pannankandy bridge in Kilinochchi, on Saturday.

Sources in the Vanni said that the incident took place around 4.30 pm, when he went to see the floods spilling over the bridge.

He was rushed to the Puthukudiyeruppu hospital in the Mullaithivu district and had his foot amputated.

Meanwhile the Military Police (MP) in Mannar have commenced an inquiry on 4 soldiers who are suspected to have assaulted the Treasurer of Mannar's Citizens Committee on Saturday, said sources in Mannar.

The Civil Affairs Co-ordinator in Mannar recorded the statement of the victim on Sunday.
