Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawanse, leader of the Janatha Nidahas Peramuna (JNP), a splinter group of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) is scheduled to meet Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapakse on Monday. This would be the first official meeting between the Wimal Weerawanse and Mahinda Rajapakse after the split in the JVP, political sources said.
The formation of All Party Defense Co-operation Committee is to be given top priority by Wimal Weerawanse during the discussion with Rajapakse, JNP sources said. Wimal Weerawanse suggested in the parliament last week that all parties should come forward to form an All Party Defense Co-operation Committee to tackle the problem faced by the people of the south following frequent bomb blasts in Colombo and other parts.
