A trader and his wife with their four-year-old daughter sought protection due to continuous death threats from Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers and SLA-backed paramilitaries, with Jaffna Human Rights Commission (HRC) office, Monday. Soldiers from SLA Achcheazhu camp in Ooreazhu, Chunnaakam in Valikaamam have been persistently demanding the trader to appear for interrogation at their camp, the trader said in his statement to the HRC Investigating Officer.
The trader, 34, his wife, 33 and their daughter, 04, are residents of Ooreazhu, Chunnaakam in Valikaamam. HRC authorities officially handed over the three to Jaffna police. HRC officials are taking steps to place the trader in the protective custody of Jaffna Prison, and his wife and daughter to be lodged in the Special Rehabilitation Centre in Kurunakar for women and children.
