Prayers for peace observed in Jaffna

Leaders and followers of Saiva, Protestant, and Catholic religions in Jaffna peninsula participated in a joint prayer event for peace in Sri Lanka, organized by Northern Region Sathiya Seva institution at Nallur Saturday around 2:30 p.m, presided by Jaffna magistrate Vasanthasenan. “Love is God, Live in Love” was the main theme on which the devotional singing prayer programme was held, according to the attendees.
Rt. Rev. Dr. Thomas Soundaranayagam, Bishop of Jaffna of the Catholic religion, Rev. S. P. Nesakumar, Principal Priest of Ceylon Church Mission, Bishop of Jaffna, Church of South Indian Mission, Jaffna diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. D. S. Thiyagarajah, Srila Sri. T. Mahadeva Kurukka’l of Gayathri Mission in Jaffna, lit the traditional ceremonial lamp and participated in the event. “All religions are noble, all people are children of God, all religions are based on the concept of love, and all people finally end at the feet of God,” were the doctrines upheld in the devotional singing prayer joined in by the participants. Civil society sources in Jaffna said that such religious event is taking place in Jaffna after a long time. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Army (SLA) in Jaffna announced the new curfew hours, from 9:00 p.m to 4:30 a.m. daily, with effect from Saturday, reducing the recently imposed curfew hours by two-and-a-half-hours. The interim curfew hours had been from 7:00 p.m to 4:30 a.m.
