Slain Maheswaran’s associate knifed to death[TamilNet, Friday, 27 June 2008, 09:53 GMT]Unknown men killed Friday around 1:40 a.m. knifed to death a close associate of late T. Maheswaran, former Sri Lanka minister and United National Party (UNP) parliamentarian for Colombo district at his residence on Wyman Road in Jaffna, police said. The victim was making arrangements for a memorial event that was to be held in Nalloor Thurkkaa Ma’ni Ma’ndapam Friday in remembrance of late Maheswaran who was slain on 01 January in Colombo. The victim was identified as Kanthasamy Pirapakaran, 34, a father of 2 children. The killers used a sharp instrument to cut Pirapakaran’s throat in his house located around 200 meters from the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) sentry post at Arasadi Junction in Jaffna. An alms giving lunch was to be held in Nalloor Thurkkaa Ma'ni Ma'ndapam Friday. Memorial events to mark the end of six months of Mahewaran’s assassination were to be held Friday in two other places in Jaffna peninsula. Colombo district Tamil parliamentarian of the opposition United National Party, T. Maheswaran, was shot at Ponnampala Vaa'neasvarar temple at Kochchikkadai in Colombo 01 January 2008 Tuesday around 10:00 a.m., while he was paying homage at the shrine, and succumbed to his injuries at Colombo hospital.
