Tamil teachers in Kandy district under surveillance

About three hundred Tamil teachers who have been working in Kandy district on transfer from the northern and eastern provinces are under special surveillance. The activities of teachers transferred from Ki'linochchi district are closely monitored, said Kandy Police Superintendent (SP) Sisira Weerakone addressing a conference held in Kandy district secretariat, according to a news report carried in Monday's Thinakkural.
The influx of Tamil teachers in large numbers to Kandy district schools from north and east have created suspicion among security forces, Kandy SP was quoted as saying at District Development Committee meeting which was presided by Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake, reports further said.
