3 Media persons honoured in Karaveddi

Three senior media persons were honoured for their services by the Art and Cultural Department of Karaveddi Regional Secretariat in Vadmaraadchi, and were presented with awards by the Goverenment Agent of Jaffna in an event held Tuesday, sources in Vadmaraadchi said. This is the first event of its kind taking place in Jaffna peninsula where journalists and media men live in constant threat to their lives from Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers and the SLA-backed paramilitaries.

Media persons honoured
The honorees were Chinnavan Suntharalingam, of Vathiri in Vadamaraadchi, Thanabalasingam, former Chief editor of Thinakkural, and former editor of Virakesari, Nadarajah.

All three are over sixty years of age and are well-known for their dedicated service.

Chinnavan Suntharalingam was presented with the award for the best Cartoonist.

Former GA of Mannaar Mr. Visvalingam was the guest of honour in the event.
