SLA soldier shot dead in Batticaloa

Two unidentified armed men on motor cycle opened fire on the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) road patrol unit Tuesday around 2:30 p.m killing a soldier in Charava’naa Veethi in Kalladi area in Batticaloa police division, sources in Batticaloa said. SLA and police launched a cordon and search operation in the area following the shooting.

The victim was identified as R. P. Senevaratne, 26, from Kurnagala district, Batticlaoa police said.

His body is kept at Batticaloa Teaching Hospital.

The SLA soldiers and the police were jointly engaged in the road patrol at Charava’naa Veethi.

An SLA camp is located around 220 m from the place of attack.

Kalladi is situated 2 km south of Batticaloa town.
