Teacher, mother killed, SLAF bombers target settlement, irrigation tank

A 46-year-old teacher and a 35-year-old mother succumbed to their wounds at Puthukkudiyiruppu hospital, where six wounded civilians were admitted Saturday morning after an air-strike by the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) at 10:00 a.m. A 2-month-old baby narrowly escaped death. The indiscriminate bombardment has destroyed more than 10 houses. The bombers also targeted an irrigation tank in Visuvamadu. Tension prevails in Mullaiththeevu district as the Sri Lankan military has stepped up artillery and aerial attacks targeting populated areas and basic civilian facilities.

Two SLAF bombers targeted the densely populated Ira'naippaalai located along the Puthukkudiyiruppu - Maaththa'lan Road in Mullaiththeevu district with at least 12 bombs, according to medical sources. The teacher who succumbed to his injuries was identified as S. Thayaparan, a father of six. The other victim was K. Pasunkani, a mother of two. The wounded civilians were identified as T. Suvaitha, 18, P. Rahini, 32, Vijayakumar, 39 and S. Moniya, 25. After attacking the Ira'naippaalai settlement, the SLAF bombers targeted an irrigation tank and the cultivation field surrounding the tank at Visuvamadu, causing damage to the anicut.
