Police deployed inside Eastern University

Effective immediately the security for Eastern University of Sri Lanka (EUSL) in Vanthaa'rumoolai has been handed over to the police based on instructions from higher authorities, according to Dr.V. Pathmanathan, the vice chancellor of the EUSL. 60 policemen under the supervision of an Assistant Superintendent of Police have been placed on duty within the University.
The ASP has posted his policemen on duty at various locations including the administrative center. Every one entering the university premises are being thoroughly searched before being allowed to proceed. The decision was taken at a special meeting regarding the security of the Eastern University presided by Basil Rajapaksa, the brother and advisor of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa. In addition to the EUSL in Vanthaa'rumoolai , the security measures have been implemented in Trincomalle campus as well as in the South Eastern University. The President of Students Union, Mothees, commenting on the situation said that the hand over to the Police was causing inconveniences to the educational activities as both the undergraduates as well as the lecturers were being subjected to intense search. Although the Police has released the University employees held in custody, a third year agriculture student, who has been subjected to interrogations, is yet to be released.
