Cattlemen, on finding the partly decomposed corpse of a 15-year-old girl student Tuesday around 5:00 p.m in a wasteland at Yaakkarai in Karaveddi located on the southern boundary of Vadamaraadchi, informed Nelliyadi police. The girl was identified as the one gone missing Friday after leaving her home in Yaakkarai to visit a relative living close by, sources in Karaveddi said.
The victim was identified as Baskaran Kowsalya, a grade ten student of Yaakkarai Vinaayakar Viththiyaalyam in Karaveddi. Point Pedro acting magistrate Alex Rajah held the inquest into the death at the place where the corpse was found and directed the police to hand it over to Jaffna Teaching Hospital mortuary for post mortem examination to be held. The girl student may have been abducted Friday, killed and dumped in the wasteland, residents in Karaveddi said. The place where the corpse was found is also known as Mu’l’li where 2 corpses of youths were said to be found in March 2007. A search organised by Point Pedro Magistrate Mr. K. Ariyanayagam and the police 20 Tuesday March, for the two partly burnt corpses discovered by Mulli residents in a mangrove shrub jungle Monday, ended in failure. Military boot tracks on the marshy ground were found in the area and residents alleged that the burnt corpses have been removed Monday night by the troopers who the villagers accuse of dumping the body there.
