The beheaded body of a male dressed in sari and blouse and bearing wounds indicating severe torture was found Wednesday morning along Chaavakachcheari-Point Pedro road in Kappoothu, Charasaalai, in the area between Vadamaraadchi and Thenmaraadchi, Chaavakacheari police said. The victim may have been abducted from another place in Jaffna peninsula, brought to Kappoothu area, before torture and beheading, Charasaalai residents said.
The police, on being informed by local residents, conducted inquires obtaining information from them. The beheaded body, found in a mangrove land in Kappoothu, may have been dumped there during curfew hours Tuesday night, the police said. The head of the body was swathed in a sarong and the body had been slashed and stabbed before the killing. The hands and legs were bound behind, the police said. Chaavakacheari magistrate Mr. Annalingam Premchander after holding inquiries into the death at the site directed the police to hand the body over to Jaffna Teaching Hospital mortuary to be identified. In 2006, eight youths had gone missing in Vadmaraadchi and a massive search was launched to find their bodies in the same mangrove land in Charasaalai area. Tuesday, the decomposed corpse of a 15-year-old girl student was found dumped in a wasteland at Yaakkarai in Karaveddi located on the southern boundary of Vadamaraadchi.
