Banner marks Tiger anniversary

The Liberation Tigers put up banners by the road all over Jaffna to commemorate Col.Kittu (Sathasivam Krishnakumar), one of their senior leaders who was killed in January 1993 in mid sea when he ordered the ship he was sailing in to be blown up rather than surrender to the Indian Navy that had intercepted his vessel and was demanding his surrender.

Banners appeared today in Raasavinthottam in Jaffna town, Kalviankaadu, Nallur, Ariaalai, Pt.Pedro, Vadamaradchi east etc.,

The Sri Lankan Army (SLA) had removed the banners upon hearing about them from informants. But in several areas in the peninsula, including Nallur, the banners were not removed until this evening said sources in Jaffna.

The Tigers had commemorated Col.Kittu at Puthtukudiyiruppu and Mallavi in the Vanni.

In Batticaloa, they had made a model of the ship in which Col.Kittu perished with his comrades for the commemoration said sources in the east.
