Three students abducted in Batticaloa

Unidentified armed men abducted three students in three separate incidents in various areas of Batticaloa district, according to complaints lodged at the police stations in the areas.

A General Cerificate of Education Ordinary Level (GCE O/L) student from Sathththurukkondaan area within Batticaloa police division went missing Sep 09, while on his way to purchase some provisions from the market. The victim has been identified as N.Sritharan, 16.

Another 16 year old youth, also a GCE O/L student, identified as A.K.Hamsatharan, was abducted in the same area while walking along Nochchumunai Women Road within Batticaloa police division.

Meanwhile, an external university student taking Genera Arts Qualifying (GAQ) course was abducted from Navatkudaah area within Vavunatheevu Police division.

The abducted undergraduate has been identified as Gunapalan, 25.

The relatives of the victims have lodged complaints with humanitarian organizations such as Batticaloa office of Human Rights Commision (HRC), International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC).
