Sri Lankan Special Task Force (STF) commandos shot and killed a 48-year-old Tamil trader Thursday around 8:15 p.m. in the back yard of his shop at Veeramunai-Ampalaanththu'rai main road in Ma'ndoor in the Batticaloa district, sources in Batticaloa said.
The victim was identified as Visvalingam Thambirasa, a father of four children. Thambirasa sold liquor along with petrol and groceries in his shop, and STF commandos on road patrol duty routinely demand liquor on credit. On Thursday, Thambirasa refused to supply liquor on credit to STF commandos, and a verbally abusing heated argument had ensued, sources added. The STF commandos, later had come to the Thambirasa's premises, and shot dead the trader in the backyard of his shop when he went to tether his cow. STF commandos handed over Thambirasa's body to Ka'luvaangchchikkudi hospital, and after post mortem examination the body was given to his relatives.
