Grenade attack on Transparency International Director's residence

The residence of the Executive Director of the Transparency International of Sri Lanka, Mr.J.C.Weliyamuna, located in Kohuwela in Colombo district in the western province, came under grenade attack Saturday night around 11:30 p.m.,electronic media reported Sunday morning. Transparency International is a leading international non-governmental organization addresses corruption, and has an office in Sri Lanka.

Two grenades were thrown at his residence, one caused extensive damages to the upper floor of his house, and the other was found unexploded, Mr Weliyamuna said in his complaint with the Kohuwela police. Mr.Weliyamuna is a leading lawyer and has been appearing in several cases including human rights violation petitions, media sources said. Kohuwela police said they launched an inquiry into the alleged incident.
