377 members of 120 displaced families were resettled in Kattaiparichchan
south village in Moothoor east in Trincomalee district Wednesday,
civil society sources in Trincomalee said. The displaced families fled
their villages and sought safety in Batticaloa district following the
military operation by the Sri Lanka Army in April 2006.
From 2006, the displaced have been staying in several welfare centers
in Ka'luvaagnchikkudi, Aaraiyampathi, Chengkaladi and Ma'nmunai North. They were transported using thirteen buses from the welfare centers in
Batticaloa district on Wednesday via Vaakarai-Verukal road, according
to Rehabilitation Project Director A.L.M.Sheriff in Batticaloa. Several thousands of Moothoor displaced have been still staying in
Batticaloa welfare centers awaiting resettlement in their own villages. Moothoor Divisional Secretariat has undertaken the responsibility of
providing immediate relief to the resettled and other livelihood assistance.
