A 38-year old driver of the Vavuniyaa depot of the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) was shot dead by unidentified armed men Sunday evening near Pa'ndaarikkulam Amman Temple in Vavuniyaa. Armed men waylaid him and shot the driver when he was riding home in his motorbike after work, witnesses said.

The victim has been identified as Tharmalingam Arulkumaran.

Arulkumaran managed to run to a nearby boutique with gunshot injuries, but he fell on the floor of the shop.

Fellow employees working with him on receipt of information rushed to the shop and transferred his body to the Vavuniyaa general hospital.

Acting Vavuniyaa Magistrate, M.Sittampalam visited the site and ordered the police to hand over the body to his relatives after postmortem examination.

Arulkumaran was the fourth employee of the Vavuniyaa SLTB deport killed by unidentified armed men.

Earlier three employees of the Vavuniyaa SLTB depot including its Depot Manager were shot dead.

SLTB employees have been agitating for immediate security to perform their duty without fear.
