North East to experience heavy rains, strong winds

Low depression above the Indian ocean about 350 km
off Trincomalee town would pass through between Trincomalee and Mullaitivu Sunday morning between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., warned Meteorological Department, in a press release issued Saturday.
Meteorological Department official, S.Wasanthakumar told media in Colombo that the districts Mullaitivu, Killinochchi, Trincomalee, Vavuniya, Ampaarai, Batticaloa, Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa will experience heavy rains and strong winds. Heavy rains and winds are already affecting the said areas from Friday, residents there said. Fishermen are warned not to venture into sea as the conditions are likely to be hazardous. Divisional Secretariat officials in these districts have warned people to take precautions in the event of a possible cyclone developing. DS officials have also taken steps to provide relief to affected people in case of displacement due to floods and winds.
