[TamilNet, Tuesday, 06 January 2009, 01:42 GMT]
Unknown armed men hurled hand grenades and fired at the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) sentry point located in Mudamaavadi junction along the Aadiyapaatham Road that links Kalviyangkaadu and Thirunelveali in the municipal limits of Jaffna town at 7:00 p.m. Monday, sources in Jaffna said. Although SLA casualties and injuries are feared, Palaali Military command has not officially acknowledged the attack.

SLA troopers and Kopaai Police have cordoned off the area and are conducting house to house search from early Tuesday morning, according to local residents.

Routinely Kopaai Police officers conduct search operations in the areas along Aadiyapaatham Road during the day time, and SLA troopers man the checkpoints during nights, according to residents of the area.
