White van gunmen abduct Tamil youth in Batticaloa

Unidentified armed men arriving in a white van Friday around 5:00 p.m abducted a Tamil youth serving in Maamaankam Maariamman Koayil in Batticaloa, according to a complaint lodged with Batticaloa police.

The abducted youth is Kunam Kunaseelan, 19.

Kunaseelan was serving as the assistant to the present Saiva priest of the said temple.

Kunaseelan is the son of the sister-in-law of the Saiva priest shot and killed by unidentified gunmen one and a half month ago, sources in Batticaloa said.

Eye witnesses said that the abductors were wearing green T-shirts and black pants.

Complaint has also been made to the Human Rights Commission (HRC) in Batticaloa reagarding the abduction.

Maamaankam is located 2 km north of Batticaloa town.
