Memorial event held for Thangamma Appakkuddi in Thellippalai

The children of Thurkkaapuram Children Home founded by Sivaththamizh Chelvi Thangamma Appaakuddi and hundreds of people attended the 84th birthday memorial event for Sivaththamizh Chelvi Thangamma Appaakuddi Thursday at Thurkkaapuram in Theillippalai where the statue of Thangamma Appaakkuddi was unveiled. A memorial hall and a flower garden bearing her name were also opened, sources in Jaffna said. Jaffna Government Agent, K. Ganesh and the Vice-chancellor of Jaffna University, Prof. S. Shanmugaligam, delivered memorial speeches.

Hawai Aatheena Thissi Tho’ndunaatha Suvaamikal cut open the ribbon opening the Memorial Hall named after late Ms Appaakuddi.

The General Secretary of All Ceylon Hindu Society, Kanthaiah Neelakandan, unveiled the statue while the president of the society, V. Kailayapillai and his wife opened the flower garden.

Yaazh Srilasiri Soamaachchaariya Paramaachchaariya Suvaamikal garlanded the statue.

The representatives of several organizations in Jaffna peninsula including Saiva organizations participated in the event held from 8:45 a. m Thursday.
