Two youths brought to Kudathenawela in Anuradhapura district from
other areas in a vehicle were shot dead and their bodies were burnt by
unidentified persons Sunday night around 9:00
p.m., police sources said. Kudathenawela is located between the villages, Kambirgaswewa and
Aluthgama, about 30 km off northwest of Anuradhapura town.
The youths whose identities have not yet been determined, were brought to the area in a jeep
like vehicle used by the police without being checked by sentry points of home guards and police. Both youths were later assaulted badly and were shot dead. Thereafter, their bodies were burnt. Residents of the area said those youths were not from their area. The jeep that brought these youths had returned from the area passing through the
same sentry points of police and home guards without being checked. Anuradhapura Magistrate Mr.Ruchira Weliwatte visited the site Monday where the burnt bodies were found by the villagers and ordered identification and postmortem. Bodies have been transferred to the
Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital.
