Sri Lankan Army detains Indian fishermen

Five fishermen from the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu who came ashore in their boat at Kankesanthurai (KKS) yesterday were detained by the Sri Lankan security forces.

They said that they were fishing in the seas off Ramanathapuram on the southern coast of Tamil Nadu when they lost their bearings due to high winds.

The five are being held at the 'detention centre for terrorist suspects' in the KKS-Palaly Sri Lankan Army base complex.

They were identified by the Sri Lankan Police in Jaffna as:

1.Villaayiram Muththunaakku,18 of Ramanathapuram
2.Villaayiram Kaali, 30 of Ramanathapuram
3.Seeran Panchanaathan,30
4.Latchumanan Kovindan,30
5.Raakku Thoondiyan, 20
