Detainee in Jaffna Prison released after two years

Jaffna Additional Magistrate, A. Anandarajah, ordered the release of a detainee held in Jaffna Prison for two years when the police withdrew the accusation against him in Jaffna Court Tuesday for want of evidence, legal sources in Jaffna said. The police had arrested the person detained, for possession of dangerous weapons, a Walkie-talkie with accessorie,s and pistol cartridges. Legal action was delayed as the police was waiting for results of forensic tests of the objects claimed to have been found in the detainee’s residence.
The victim, Antony Jamis Denishan, 36, es a family man from Old Court Road, Mallaakam. The police withdrew the accusation according to the instruction of the Attorney General (AG) to the Senior Police Superintendent in Jaffna.
