SL Police arrests Tamil youth in Kandy

The Kandy Police Tuesday arrested a Tamil youth and have detained him in the police station for further inquiry by the Terrorist Intelligence Division (TID). The Kandy Police said he was taken into custody on a report by the Colombo Terrorist Intelligence Unit that he had been a member of the LTTE intelligence wing.

The arrested youth was identified as Veeraiya Gopalakrishnan.

Police further said the suspect had been monitoring the movement of very important Sri Lanka Government officials in Kandy and passing information to the LTTE.

Police further said they had collected evidence to implicate him that he had been involved in several terrorist activities in the south.

Gopalakrishnan had also traveled to Killinochchi several times earlier while staying in Kengalle, Kundasale and Pallakelle in Kandy district, police said.
