Jaffna Police hand over dead youth

The Sri Lankan Police handed over the body of a youth with gun shot injuries to the Jaffna hospital this evening. They said that the Sri Lankan Navy had found the body in the seas of Nedunthivu (Delft Island).
Hospital sources said that the youth, believed to be between 18 and 20 years old, had gunshot injuries on his body.
Two youths were arrested during a search operation by the Sri Lankan Army (SLA) in Kalviyankaadu, southeast of Jaffna town, yesterday evening.
The SLA conducted the search operation after unidentified men attacked TELO cadres travelling in a van in the area.
The arrested youths are: Balasingham Thayalan,19, of Kalaimakal road and Yogarajah Kulothungan,21, of New Chetti Street, Nallur north. Both are detained at the SLA camp at Temple road.
Meanwhile the Nahamani Sathees, 25, from Neervely, north of Jaffna Town, was severely beaten by the SLA on February 3 and has been admitted to the Jaffna Hospital. His parents have informed the Human Rights Commission (HRC).
Elsewhere in Jaffna, a 16 year old youth, Mylvaganam Shanthakumar, was arrested by the SLA at the Navalar road and Kachcheri-Nallur road junction yesterday evening.
He had earlier made an entry with the Kopay police that he had lost his National Identity Card (NIC). However, he informed the police few days ago to withdraw the entry after he found hi NIC.
Sources in Jaffna said that he was arrested as part of an operation into lost NICs.
