A group of 10 armed men, including a female, who arrived in a white van abducted Sellathurai Sabanathan, a 50-year-old secretary of Tamil National Alliance parliamentarian Kanagaratnam Sathasivam. The abduction has taken place Saturday around 3:30 p.m. at the residence of the victim at Vairavappu'liyangku'lam.

The abductors arrived in a white van bearing registration number 250-2142.

When the victim's wife, a teacher at Tamil Mahaa Viththiyaalayam, Vavuniyaa has pleaded from them not to take her husband, who is a father of three. The abductors didn't respond to her plea and refused to say where he was being taken for 'inquiries'.

Three days ago, Vavuniyaa district criminal investigation division police officials visited his house and inquired about a tipper vehicle parked in his compound after issuing a letter stating that they are removing the tipper for an investigation.

TNA MPs in Vavuniyaa contacted the police immediately after the abduction. But, the police officials said that they were not involved to his arrest or 'abduction'.
