3 shot dead, 3 injured on Point Pedro Sea

Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) in Point Pedro is alleged of opening fire on civilians fleeing from Puthu Maaththa’lan in Mullaiththeevu towards Vadamaraadchi on a boat Thursday killing three and seriously injuring three including a one-year-old boy, sources in Point Pedro said. SLN handed over the arrested civilians to Point Pedro police Friday evening while the bodies of the civilians killed are kept in Point Pedro Base Hospital mortuary.

The three civilians killed were identified as Mahalingam Pragasamohan, 37, his son P. Anojan, 15 and Ms. Jerad Nisanthi Nilani, 26.

The injured were identified as S. Jeniston, 20, Mary, 37, and J. Newton, 01.

No one has come forward to claim the three bodies lying in the hospital mortuary.

Arrangement is being made to bury the bodies on government expense, hospital sources said.

Meawhile, the police handed over the 7 civilians arrested along with the injured in the boat to Mirusuvil Sri Lanka Army (SLA) detention camp in Thenmaraadchi Friday, sources in Vadamaraadchi said.
