The political office of the paramilitary group TELO at Vairavapuliyankulam in Vavuniya town area was set on fire allegedly by PLOTE in the early hours of this morning, Police said.
There was no one in the office at the time of the incident and the intruders had thrown petrol through the rear door of the building to destroy furniture and documents, sources said. A TELO spokesman said that the office had been burnt to ashes, accusing the PLOTE members. He said that this incident took place while the SLA stood guard at the junction a few yards away from the office. PLOTE sources said that their political office at Veppankulam was damaged allegedly by TELO members yesterday afternoon. Meanwhile the SLA sources in Vavuniya said that the paramilitary groups (PLOTE and TELO) had been warned not to roam with weapons and any violation of the order will result in strict action against them. The sources added that the groups had been advised to ask for Police escort when going out to carry out political tasks.
