Kalkudaa police in Batticaloa arrested and detained a husband who is suspected to have abducted and killed his wife. Informed by local residents of Paddiyadicheanai of odour of decomposed corpse emanating from a cremation ground, Kalkudaa police, accompanied by Vaazhaichcheanai magistrate, Manickavasagar Kanesarasa and Medical Officer, S. Atchuthan, went to the cremation ground and excavated the body of a woman, police sources said.
Meanwhile, the parents of Arumugam Vanaja of Ooriyankaddu in Vaakarai, had complained to Kalkudaa police that Vanaja was missing after leaving home on 24th March in a three-wheeler to appear for an interview for the post of pre-school teacher conducted by a volunteer organization. Kalkudaa police took into custody Vanaja’s husband Armugam Thavarajah on suspicion of killing Vanja and produced him in Vaazhaichcheanai Court where the magistrate ordered him to be placed in remand prison. Armugam Thavarajah is said to have married twice before marrying Vanaja who is 24 years old and has a child. In a child maintenance case filed against Thavarajah by police on Thavarajah, he had maintained that the child was not his and the magistrate had ordered a DNA test, Vaazhaichchenai sources said. Thavarajah had sent the three-wheeler to Vanaja on 24 March falsely informing that she was being called to attend the interview after which she had gone missing, anticipating that the test result will prove him to be the father of the child, Vanaja’s parents said.
