Two officials representing Switzerland were on a visit to Jaffna to assess various development projects carried out by the Swiss Development Corporation (SDC) in Jaffna peninsula and to consider further development schemes, sources in Jaffna said. The officials will be submitting a report to their government on the progress made in the development projects SDC is engaged in and on the planning and feasibility of future projects.
The Swiss team visited Hartley College in Point Pedro located in the High Security Zone (HSZ) of Sri Lanka Army (SLA) where SDC is engaged in a school building project to evaluate progress. The team discussed related matters with the school administration. The officials then went to Point Pedro Base Hospital and inspected the development activities of SDC. The team also visited Ezhuthumadduvaazh North Government Tamil Mixed School (GTMS) where SDC school building activities have been suspended due to the area being declared as HSZ by SLA preventing the students attending school. The feasibility of future development projects in the peninsula will be considered in the light of the present situation and the report the officials submit to their government is of great significance, education officials in Jaffna said. Switzerland is one of the countries engaged in significant development projects in Jaffna peninsula.
